Brandt's Cormorant
Brandt’s Cormorant on eggs at The Cove. La Jolla, California. San Diego County.

I made seven trips to the La Jolla Cove between February and May 2011. This Thursday I toured the coastline, looking for any subject that might offer itself to me. When I realized the local Brandt’s Cormorants were either courting or already on eggs, I knew I had a long-term mission to address. The unobstructed views to the nesting birds were an opportunity to work on a series to document the progression of eggs to fledglings. At the time of my last visit on May 1st, many of the young birds had flown away, but still there were fresh eggs and young being fed. I will get to those images in a future posting.

Creatures I met on this expedition were California Sea Lion, Brown Pelican, Brandt’s Cormorant, Western Gull, Heermann’s Gull.
