Black-Throated Magpie-Jay

I visited four places in the Tijuana River Valley on a Thursday mid-June morning. I started at the Bird and Butterfly Garden to be teased by Black-Throated Magpie-Jays. I followed with a bike ride to the Tijuana River Mouth where terns (Least & Forster’s) and plovers (Snowy) played in the sand and surf for me. Then I drove to the main Dairy Mart Pond where a Mallard family and Pied-Billed Grebes gained my attention. My final stop was at the nearby “Stick Pond” along Dairy Mart Road where I was entertained by a juvenile Green Heron.

Birds I met on this expedition were Black-Throated Magpie-Jay, Forster’s Tern, Least Tern, Snowy Plover, Pied-Billed Grebe, Mallard, Green Heron.
