2016-08-28 Bird & Butterfly Garden

Black-Throated Magpie-Jay - Calocitta collieiA week ago Sunday I picked up my friend Jerry from Albuquerque at the airport for a week of recreational photography. I’ve been neglecting my need to collect images for too long. Jerry and I had planned this week several months ago.

The loss of a limb below the knee placed a few limits on the places best suited for our explorations, but Jerry’s amazing attitude and zest for life made for a good time and lots of laughter. I suggested the Bird and Butterfly Garden as our first destination and it piqued Jerry’s interest. I had hopes we’d meet the Black-Throated Magpie-Jays, and I was not disappointed, and neither was Jerry.

Of course, it being the Bird *AND* Butterfly Garden, we required of ourselves some quality time with the local Lepidoptera. Two of the subjects have been tentatively identified as “Orange Sulphur Butterfly” and “Viceroy Butterfly” and I am uncertain if these are accurate. If anyone has a better call on these species, I welcome corrections.

I have more images ready to share from my week with Jerry, but my duties with the Mammal Atlas project must be attended. So until time permits, this offering must suffice.
