2016-10-07 Joshua Tree Park: Birds Too!

Say's Phoebe - Sayornis saya

Though the main course on the menu for my outing to Joshua Tree National Park wore fur, when feathers showed up I had to take a bite or two. I did not take a lot of pictures of House Finches, but there were an unbelievable number of them all day. The yard in front of the house we stayed at had a small basin for water. All the creatures in the surrounding desert seemed well aware of its presence and made regular stops throughout the day. In the early evening coyotes took advantage of the drinking supply. Not all the visitors were thirsty. The Yellow-Headed Blackbird I observed was catching small insects (lacewings, I believe) from the water’s edges and surface.
