In the context intended for this presentation, birds in the taxonomic order Galliformes are called “Gamebirds”. Birds in this group include quail (family Odontophoridae), pheasants, ptarmigan, turkey, and grouse (family Phasianidae), and chachalacas (family Cracidae). The species shown are: California Quail, Chukar, Gambel’s Quail, Greater Sage Grouse, Mountain Quail, Northern Bobwhite, Plain Chachalaca, Ring-Necked Pheasant, Scaled Quail, Spruce Grouse, Wild Turkey, and Willow Ptarmigan.

We find these hearty, adaptable birds from the tropics to the polar Arctic zone, in all habitats in between.
