Raptors, or ‘birds of prey’, get their name from the grasping talons they use to seize and subdue their prey. On display in these galleries are Owls (Burrowing, Great Horned, Long-Eared, Northern Pygmy, Short-Eared, and Western and Eastern Screech), Hawks (Common Black, Coopers, Ferruginous, Harris’s, Northern Harrier, Red-Shouldered, Red-Tailed, Rough-Legged, Sharp-Shinned, Swainson’s, and White-Tailed Kite), Falcons (American Kestrel, Merlin, Crested Caracara, Peregrine and Prairie Falcon), Eagles (Bald, Golden, and Martial), and Osprey.
