Small Peeps

“Peeps” is a term of endearment sometimes used as a reference to these and other small sandpipers. Western, Least and Semipalmated Sandpipers (genus Calidris) comprise the most widely accepted “Small Peeps” group. Western and Least Sandpipers are usually found in the western side of North America, while the Semipalmated Sandpiper tends to stay in the east. It took me until 2020, when I took a trip to Texas before I met the Semipalmated Sandpiper.
