Woodrats

Sometimes called pack rats (or packrats), woodrats are much larger than any other southern California rodents. Kangaroo Rats, especially the Desert Kangaroo Rat are quite large, but not as big as the woodrats. These animals build prominent nests, using materials gathered from near their homes. The Big-Eared, or “Dusky-Footed” Woodrats build enormous nests that, if fires do not burn, will reach heights of over six feet.
