Description: The ‘Gray-Headed’ subspecies is more a Rocky Mountain Zone bird. This one was found at the Visitor Center in the community of Laguna Mountain, San Diego County, California. I recently learned of a “Red-Backed” subspecies that is very similar in appearance to this bird, but who’s bill is darker and not the pale color shown on this bird. |
