Long-Tailed Pocket Mouse
Chaetodipus formosus
The Long-Tailed Pocket Mouse is very difficult to distinguish from the Desert Pocket Mouse. There is a subtle difference to ear shape that is one factor. Penis shape is another factor, but few of us want to get that intimate with a rodent. The Long-Tailed Pocket Mouse is one of the most common rodents in the American desert southwest. In San Diego County it is restricted to the Anza-Borrego Desert.
