Western Scrub-Jay

True to its old name, the Western Scrub-Jay inhabits areas of low scrub. They range over much of western USA except the far northern states. This bird has recently been split into three species: California Scrub Jay (Aphelocoma californica) on the west coast of North America, Island Scrub Jay (Aphelocoma insularis) on the Channel Islands off the California coast, and Woodhouse’s Scrub Jay, (Aphelocoma woodhouseii) in the Great Basin and Rocky mountains south of Oregon, Idaho and Wyoming into central Mexico.
